The Carriage of Batteries by Road and Sea

The carriage of lithium batteries has become a major topic of discussion throughout the transport industry in recent times and there have been many incidents causing concern about the safety of these components whilst in transit. This has led to international legislation for all modes of transport governing the packing, labelling, marking and shipping documentation required to ensure their safe passage whether in the air, on the road or on the sea.

We offer inhouse classroom training programmes and public virtual courses.

Students will learn:

  • Hazard classes and proper shipping names
  • Marking and labelling a shipment
  • Packaging requirements
  • Completion of documentation
  • Special provisions
  • Limited Quantities
  • Checking of shipments

Note on Sodium Batteries:

With the possible introduction of sodium batteries in the near future, our course now incorporates these new batteries. Sodium Batteries have now been recognised globally and been issued UN numbers, they are now listed in all the dangerous goods regulations.

Our Batteries courses are modular. It is possible to just attend our Batteries by Air course, or just Batteries by Road and Sea. However, we do strongly recommend you take the multimodal programme.

The public courses are all run as virtual courses only. These are “live online” sessions, Monday – Friday. The course times are 0800-1230 each day. The road and sea modules are run on Monday and Tuesday, the air module runs from Wednesday – Friday.

In house training is run over 2 days on your premises.

The Air module includes a CAA approved exam and successful students will be registered with the CAA. All certificates will be valid for two years.
