Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) Preparatory Courses

The European Commission issued a Directive (96/35/EC) on the appointment and qualification of Safety Advisers for the transport of dangerous goods by road, rail and inland waterways.

If you ship dangerous goods by any of these modes of transport, you will probably need to appoint a Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA). The examination for the vocational qualification is set by the Scottish Qualifications Authority and administered by them. 

We are offering a cost-effective five day preparatory training programme which will cover all the essential elements of the syllabus necessary for the 3 main examinations; Road, Core and All Classes. The course comprises study of the appropriate road regulations plus the following subjects:

• Vehicle Operations
• Driver responsibilities and training requirements
• Environmental Protection
• Reporting Duties
• Safety audits
• Emergency procedures
• The role of the DGSA
• Training requirements
• DGSA examination syllabus
• Practice examination papers for Road, Core and All Classes
• Job functions of the DGSA

Please note that additional training may be required if you wish to take the 2 additional exams that cover the transport of dangerous goods by rail and inland waterways.

This course is considered an advance programme. Students should attend must hold a current dangerous goods by road certificate or have a very good knowledge of the ADR regulations, previous shipping experience is advised.

The Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor qualification is valid for 5 years.

DGSA Refresher Training

We offer a virtual revalidation programme for those who wish to refresh their knowledge before attempting to take their exams again. This runs live “online” Monday – Friday from 0800-1230 each day.
